recipe requires curry paste, but i only have curry powder. Will that make much difference? Can i sub curry powder for curry paste?
You CAN sub curry powder for paste as long as the powder is not curry 'sauce' powder.. if it is just curry powder then it's fine, it will probably taste slightly better with paste because of the fresh chilli's etc but powder will still taste good... there will be no problem with it at all!Can i sub curry powder for curry paste?
Sorry i don't think you can do that because as far as i know Curry powder is only like a spice for flavour and Curry paste is for making the sauce to go into Curry's and over chips and stuff..
But i tell you what is nice, If you put a table spoon of curry powder in with your Beans when heating them up and have curried bean sandwiches for supper .. Hey and the sound effects show for about 2 days after is great
Generally you can substitute curry powder for curry sauce, but be careful about quantities. A simple tip is to mix the curry powder with a non-flavouring oil to create a paste, thus you can stick to the quantities stipulated in the recipe.
Hope this is of some help.
It is okay to use curry powder instead of paste. The difference is that you will have less oil in the dish as curry paste uses sesame oil to preserve the spices. It is usually best to stir in the powder or paste a few minutes before serving the food.
Use it by all means. Curry paste has added onion for thickening, ginger, garlic and oil. You can easily take care of it by adding extra onion or two.
You can't substitute them.
Yes
