Does any one here use whey or protein powder to build muscle in the gym?

I was wondering, does whey/protein powder actually work at all? And if so what does it do, how long does it take, and which types/brands are best?? I am currently trying Musashi.Does any one here use whey or protein powder to build muscle in the gym?
I have used whey powder but not for muscle gain. As a varsity athlete and personal trainer I use it for the reasons that exercise increases protein needs so by increasing protein intake, it can improve the response to exercise training. Most formulas don't do much to add significant amount of muscle, it just helps repair them quicker since it increases protein synthesis (whey protein is rapidly digested which is optimal for post-excercise consumption).

There isn't any one best brand since they all contain around the same amount of whey protein. If you're looking for a formula to gain weight in the form of muscle, look for whey protein powders that actually state on the container that they are for the purpose of weight gain - they have massive amounts of protein (much more than regular whey powders). Try Mammoth 2500 ( http://www.interactivenutrition.com/prod鈥?/a> ). My brother (who is 21) probably gained 20-25 pounds of muscle in less than a year.

Remember not to get too used to taking whey protein since your body will adapt to it and the effectiveness will not be as high once your body is on it for a long time.

P.S Whey protein is NOT a steroid. That first guy who answered is an idiot.Does any one here use whey or protein powder to build muscle in the gym?

well whey powder eg PVL hydroflow, contain up to 48% BCAA or EAA (cant remember exactly). So it is a good source of amino acids and it is also high in BV and digested rapidly. If you use whye all day long to build muscle it is not designed for that. Whey is cleared by the gut pretty fast, so after an hour of the whey shake your body is left with no protein again, it s better o use casein based proteins. However before, during and after your workout whey is great, use it with powerade or soemthing else high in GI and you can creat a strong anabolic environmennt. Like all things used correctly and at the right times it will serve you well. I suggest you use it.
Whey is a type of protein and there are many different types of whey - isolates, blends, concentrate etc. For best effect, use whey protein isolate immediately after your workouts as it would be absorbed pretty quickly by your body/muscles. Yes, whey does work and there is no best brand. It depends entirely on your taste and budget. But isolate is the best for post workouts.
No. I don't do steroids. I try my best after a good workout to get as much protein as i can by eating high-protein foods.
